Lake Lanier is located just an hour northeast of Atlanta.  Covering an area of 38,000 acres that is spread across several large and small islands, Lake Lanier is the go-to destination for anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Atlanta.  Surrounded by water, there are plenty of activities for families and solo adventurers at Lake Lanier.  You will get to enjoy wide open spaces, lush greenery and of course a marvelous 360-degree view of the surrounding waterfront.  With so many activities available at Lake Lanier, you will always find something new and interesting to do.

Explore the Waters

Lake Lanier is famous for its many outdoor activities and water sports. After all, you’re at a lake.  You will find a number of boat rentals (pontoons, tritons or luxury houseboats) available at Harbor Landing.  In addition, a variety of tubes, wakeboards, and water sports equipment are available for rent.  Lake Lanier welcomes millions of visitors annually who come to explore the surroundings and feel a bit closer to nature.

Have an Adventure on Land

At Lake Lanier you don’t have to stay on the water all the time.  Go exploring and enjoy what the islands have to offer by taking one of the many walking and hiking trails that are spread throughout the area.  There are a couple of hiking trails at the south end of the lake around Buford Dam.  At Don Carter State Park there are 4 miles of hiking trails near the north end of the lake.  So bring your camera and your hiking boots and enjoy the beautiful sights and sounds of nature.

Horsing Around

The Stables at Lanier Islands provide you with an opportunity to explore the beautiful Lanier Islands by horseback. So saddle up for the ride of your life. Their gentle houses will take you through a set of scenic trails along the shores of Lake Lanier Islands.  They also offer pony rides, summer camps and riding lessons in a relaxed and educational setting.

Kick Back and Relax

Lake Lanier is the ideal spot for family picnics and making memories to last a lifetime.  If your idea of fun is relaxing under the cool shade of a tree, you will find plenty of them!  To extend your stay at Lake Lanier there are many types of accommodations – from tent camping and RV lots to luxury lake houses.  You’re sure to find something that fits in your budget.

Get a Bird’s Eye View

For thrill seekers, you can soar above the trees and lake with Canopy Tours’ zipline adventures.  Their expert guides will provide guidance and training to ensure your adventure is safe, memorable and most of all fun for all members of your party.  They offer several different packages to choose from.

Make a Splash

No trip to a large body of water would be complete if you don’t get into the water (unless you’re fishing)!  Lake Lanier has a lot to offer for the whole family.  Apart from swimming in one of the many designated areas, there’s also kayaking, paddle boarding, wake surfing and canoeing.  If you enjoy water sports then this is the place for you!

You’ll never run out of ways to have fun on Lake Lanier.  There really is something for everyone to enjoy.  In addition to all of the above activities, you can also experience – golfing, fishing, spa treatments, a water park and restaurants with live entertainment.  But we should warn you, once you visit you may never want to leave.  In that case, we can help you find your forever home right on Lake Lanier!
